  Have you a scheme or project that is contributing to the smooth running of traffic during street or highway works? Or do you know of one in your area that is worthy of wider recognition for its achievements?
Entries for the HSC08 annual industry awards are being invited ahead of the 7 March deadline.

The HSC08 Industry Awards are your chance to nominate organisations or individuals that have taken significant steps to help unite and improve the industry through innovation and hard work.
Read all about it in 4 October 2007 issue, or here.

HOW TO ENTER

This year, there are four categories open to individuals or organisations from highway authorities or utilities in Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland and England.
Each award aims to acknowledge the organisations and individuals that have, through their employment, championed or contributed to better working practices with above average results.

Significant contribution to the industry – highway authority

Significant contribution to the industry – utility company

Significant contribution to the industry – product invention and innovation

Significant contribution to the industry – environment and sustainability

Applications should focus on either a particular achievement or a long-term contribution to the industry. This may be in the form of a specific project, policy or campaign, or through continuous input.
Above all, the contribution should stand out from the usual provision of service but not detract from the basic service obligations the nominee should provide.
Judges will be keen to see examples of clear improvement from the contribution of the nominee, and will specifically look for one or more of the following:
Safety;
Quality;
Environmental awareness;
Partnership working;
Innovation; and/or
Customer service.
Along with:
Examples of improving working practices and working relationships across the industry;
Evidence of a clear strategy for the project or policy;
Evidence that the strategy was clearly communicated;
Evidence of good management;
Supporting evidence that the organisation/individual has improved the service to the public; and
Evidence that it has achieved, or is well on the way to achieving, what it set out to do.

Submissions should be written and of no longer than 1,000 words. They should clearly reference the judging criteria, describe the achievements and, where possible, support the entry with proof of its/their success.
Where possible, all text sent electronically should be in a Word format, illustrations as pdfs and pictures as jpegs. Additional supporting materials such as Powerpoint files, video or newspaper cuttings are acceptable, but must accompany a written submission.
Likewise, supporting evidence of a scheme or individual’s success - such as inspection reports, feedback from local groups, surveys, or other external validations - will be taken into account. However, a submission will not be judged solely on comments already made by others. Judges will make up their own minds from all the materials submitted, although they may ask for proof of any claims.
